an American football player who specializes in punting the ball to the opposing team, usually on fourth down, to change field position
A punter is a player in football who kicks the ball to the other team when his team has not advanced far enough to score. The goal of the punter is to kick the ball as far down the field as possible, so the opposing team has to start their play from a difficult position. This usually happens on the fourth attempt when the team is not able to move the ball the required distance to keep playing. The punter’s job is to send the ball far and try to avoid the other team catching it easily.
